Buffing

The term "buffing" refers to the action of buffing or sanding the paint surface of a vehicle. This action is performed to improve the aesthetic appearance of the paint, remove surface scratches, oxidation and other imperfections, creating a smoother and brighter finish.

Buffing requires the use of a buffer, i.e. a manual or polishing pad (rotorbital or rotary), on which abrasive products such as T47 or T57 polish are applied. The buffer is then used to evenly distribute the abrasive product and to remove thin layers of damaged or dull paint through mechanical action.

There are different buffing techniques specific to different paint conditions and needs but this action is almost always followed by finer polishing steps to achieve a flawless finish.
